Pope Leo XIV expresses wish to visit Slovakia, says President Pellegrini

During a brief exchange in the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV told Slovak President Peter Pellegrini that he hopes to visit Slovakia during his pontificate, the President’s Office reported.

President Pellegrini noted the Pope’s fond memories of previous visits to Slovakia and his initial plans to return for upcoming events in Nitra and Levoča. “Following his election, those visits will no longer be possible, but I wished him strength and good health on behalf of all Slovak citizens,” said Pellegrini.

The president attended Sunday’s inaugural mass in St. Peter’s Square, along with other world leaders. Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba was also part of the Slovak delegation.

Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, was elected on May 8 as the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
