By July 15, the Slovak government will establish a task force to strengthen legal protections for public officials and improve public safety, following a cabinet meeting in Handlová. Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok will lead the group, supported by other ministries and state agencies. Prime Minister Robert Fico stated the goal is to quickly propose measures to prevent politically motivated violence. He also advocated for clearer hate speech regulations and tougher enforcement, warning that Slovakia is “close to another tragedy.” The move comes one year after the assassination attempt on Fico in Handlová.
