Changes ahead for Slovak dentistry education

The dentistry programs at Jessenius Medical Faculty in Martin and the Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice will be shortened from six to five years starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, according to the Education Ministry. Similar changes are planned at medical faculties in Bratislava. “The updated programs align with modern trends and EU standards, making our faculties more competitive,” said Education Minister Tomáš Drucker. The decision follows an EU directive from March 2024 on minimum training requirements for dentists. Universities have been preparing and approving the adjustments over recent months.
