Ministers reject drug decriminalisation debate

Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok and Health Minister Kamil Šaško firmly rejected any discussion about decriminalising or legalising drugs, including soft drugs. At a joint press conference, Šutaj Eštok said the police would treat drug dealers strictly and highlighted recent operations in which over €14 million worth of drugs were seized and 161 suspects detained. Police chief Jana Maškarová confirmed readiness to crack down on dealers, noting international cooperation. Minister Šaško announced upcoming legislation to better respond to new psychoactive substances. He stressed that drug addiction should be met with support, not stigma, but warned against any attempts to soften drug policy amid rising addiction and drug-related deaths.
