Pope Leo XIV welcomed by Slovak leaders

Slovak leaders have warmly welcomed the election of American Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. President Peter Pellegrini praised the new pontiff as a potential moral authority and expressed hope for continued strong relations between Slovakia and the Vatican. "In times of uncertainty, the world needs figures of unity and guidance," he stated.

Parliament Speaker Richard Raši and several ministers emphasized the Pope’s message of peace and reconciliation, seeing it as a timely call for Europe and the world.

Archbishop Bernard Bober, head of the Slovak Bishops’ Conference, pledged prayers and loyalty to the new pontiff, calling his mission “a blessing for the Church.”

Opposition leaders also responded positively. Progresívne Slovensko’s Michal Šimečka and KDH’s Milan Majerský welcomed the Pope’s appeal for unity. MP Veronika Remišová highlighted the importance of moral leadership in an increasingly divided world.
