Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) is scheduled to travel to Warsaw on Wednesday (May 7), to take part in an informal meeting of the heads of diplomacy of EU-member states, known as Gymnich. Poland, as the current presiding country of the Council of the European Union (EU), is hosting the meeting.
The event is being organised jointly by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
The EU foreign ministers will discuss developments in the peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, the EU's role in the process and the peace efforts of the new US administration. A related topic for the informal meeting will be relations between the EU and the United States, including the need to ensure fair transatlantic trade and avert a looming trade war.
At the meeting the diplomatic chiefs will also hold talks with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on strengthening EU-UK cooperation.
