Some 40 employees of the Slovak Academy of Science (SAV) Forest Ecology Institute protested on Wednesday against the critical situation within Slovak science, the destabilisation of workers and financial conditions of the Academy as well as the continuous brain drain of young scientists.
“We want to draw attention to the non-continuous financing of the whole Slovak Academy of Sciences and the constant budget cuts,” stated Rastislav Janik, representative of academies union. Employees also harbour concerns that budgetary slashing will affect jobs at the already understaffed research institute. The almost 200 protesting scientists moved from the building of the Slovak Academy of Sciences to the Parliament. The protest was attended also by employees of the Academy's Archaeological and Botanical Institutes.
