Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has proposed ending traditional Sunday political talk shows, suggesting that such discussions be moved to weekday evenings. He stated during a Sunday press conference that he is ready to sign an agreement with all party leaders to cancel the broadcasts, arguing that Sunday should remain a day of calm and rest.
Fico criticized the current tone and content of Sunday debates, claiming they do not meet the standard that Slovak citizens deserve. Despite this proposal, he clarified he intends to continue holding Sunday press conferences, noting that he is frequently mentioned and criticized whether he participates in talk shows or not.
The opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) has expressed support for the idea. “We believe that the working week provides sufficient space for political discourse from both the coalition and the opposition. Sunday should be reserved for rest and calm,” the party said in a statement to TASR.
