Freedom and Solidarity party possibly getting ready for “young guns” merger

After the departure of the Freedom and Solidarity head and MEP Richard Sulik from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (ALDE) in Brussels and his switch to the faction of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), his party has followed suit.

“The ALDE council met this past weekend and passed an immediate termination of Freedom and Solidarity’s membership,” said Moroza-Rasmussen, adding that the process normally takes approximately three months. Political analyst Jan Baranek views these changes as the preparation for the party Freedom and Solidarity to merge with smaller conservative parties such as Ordinary People (OLaNO), NOVA and independent MP Alojz Hlina's embryonic Citizens party. The four parties have engaged recently in close cooperation in organising anti-corruption protests. They didn't allow politicians from the old guard right-wing parties on stage, however, claiming that the protests are run by ‘young guns’.
