Foot-and-mouth disease situation stabilizing in Slovakia

Slovakia’s foot-and-mouth disease outbreak is calming down, with no confirmed cases in over two weeks, says State Veterinary Authority head Martin Chudý. Zoos and circuses are reopening, but some protective measures remain, especially in Bratislava, Trnava, and Nitra regions, where restrictions will stay in place until at least May 20. Animal transport is still subject to strict rules, including clinical checks and vehicle disinfection. Border measures will continue this and next week. Officials are expanding testing zones and deploying teams of veterinarians to ensure the area can soon be declared disease-free.
