Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has so far not granted permission for Slovak citizens to serve in the Ukrainian army, the Office of the President’s Communications Department told TASR.
"Four citizens have submitted requests, but the President has not given his consent," the department stated.
According to the Conscription Act, serving in a foreign armed force requires presidential approval. Applications must be submitted through district offices and assessed by the Ministries of Defence, Interior, and Foreign Affairs.
Shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on "all those who wish to join the defense of Ukraine, Europe, and the world" to support Ukraine’s efforts.
