Pellegrini proposes expanding local police roles

President Peter Pellegrini has called for a shift of certain policing powers from national authorities to municipal and local police forces. Speaking at a press briefing in Galanta, he proposed that local forces should be empowered to enforce traffic laws, such as measuring speed limits and issuing fines.

Pellegrini argued that decentralizing powers would allow local police to generate revenue through fines, benefiting municipal governments. He also highlighted the city of Galanta’s ongoing projects, including the restoration of the Esterházy mansion and plans to modernize local infrastructure, such as the city's amphitheatre and parking facilities.
