Naming of town square illegal according to prosecutor

Naming a square in Dolny Kubin (Zilina region) after Bishop Ján Vojtaššák is unacceptable and contrary to the law, stated Peter Mihal from the Prosecutor-General's (PG) Office. He added that naming the square after a representative of the regime of the wartime Slovak Republic (1939-1945) or any other regime based on fascist or Nazi ideology is a violation of the law.

The prosecutor has therefore lodged a protest against a general binding regulation that deals with the names of streets and other public spaces in the town, asking for it to be repealed and a new one adopted. The prosecutor's protest is due to be considered by Dolny Kubin councillors on Thursday (April 24). The town council has recommended that the protest should not be upheld.
