“We have demands!” chanted around a thousand people in front of Parliament on Tuesday night as part of an Opposition-led protest against corruption. The peaceful demonstration began in Bratislava’s SNP Square. “The time has come to warn people in power that enough is enough”, claimed protest organiser and independent MP Alojz Hlina.
In his speech, he reiterated the six demands, addressed by opposition MPs to Prime Minister Robert Fico, including the immediate dismissal of Health Ministry office director Martin Senčák and Piešťany’s Alexander Winter Hospital director Mária Domčeková over the CT scan scandal, and the passing of act on material accountability for public officials. A number of Opposition lawmakers and some actors delivered speeches. According to actor Richard Stanke, the departure of Pavol Paška from the post of Parliamentary Chairman is not the end, with Stanke calling for Paška to also be criminally prosecuted. The protest is another in a series organised by Hlina, with the next one scheduled for Friday, November 28 in Košice.
