Slovakia and Austria to present joint position on U.S. tariffs at EU Council

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Saková (Hlas-SD) and Austrian Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer will present a joint stance on U.S. tariffs at Monday’s (April 7) EU Foreign Affairs and Trade Council meeting in Luxembourg, the Slovak Economy Ministry announced.

“We deeply regret the universal tariffs announced by the U.S. President on April 2. As export-oriented countries, Slovakia and Austria are significantly impacted,” Saková said in a joint statement.

The two ministers support a coordinated EU response to protect member states' industries and economic interests. Both countries advocate for fair trade and minimal barriers in transatlantic relations.

The U.S. plans to impose tariffs of 20% on EU imports and 25% on imported cars, aiming to boost domestic industry.
