Czech economist comments on faster growth of Slovakia

While Slovakia was an underestimated economy after the fall of Communism 25 years ago and the declaration of its independence in 1993, it has boosted significantly in the meantime.

Moreover, by adopting the euro it even overtook its neighbours in the Visegrad Four: the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. According to the head of the Mendel University Research Department in Brno, the Czech Republic, Petr Rozmahel, “Slovakia is now a standard and equal partner of developed countries, and it's better off than several old EU members, including Spain, Portugal and Ireland.” Rozmahel adds that one of the reasons for this development is Slovakia's political stability. Conversely, the Czech Republic, which was dominating the region after the fall of Communism, is being limited by political instability and frequent changes of governments.
