Singles occupy 30% of households in Slovakia

Almost 30% of all households in Slovakia are currently constituted of only one person, a Prognosis of Family and Household Development in Slovakia by 2030 has revealed.

The study, which foresees a further growth of the phenomenon states that most single-member households are in the big cities and in the southern and eastern part of the country. The growth in the number of single-member households is due to several factors, including the rising incomes of individuals, a boom in flat construction in the 1970s and 1980s, and a rise in the number of divorces in the 1990s.
