Hlas-SD party open to MP salary freeze debate

Hlas-SD is open to discussing a freeze on MPs' salaries, Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok said on TA3 TV station. Parliament Speaker Richard Raši may propose the initiative.

MPs’ salaries could exceed €7,000 per month, with a pay raise also planned for the president. Opposition Freedom and Solidarity party leader Branislav Gröhling criticized the coalition for approving a special pension for the Attorney General while raising taxes and increasing costs for citizens. He called it an act of elitism and a slap in the face to the public.

Šutaj Eštok suggested reducing the number of ministries to ten but acknowledged coalition constraints. He also defended the government’s handling of police staffing and foot-and-mouth disease measures, dismissing opposition claims of mismanagement. He stated that interest in police jobs has risen significantly and that strict disease control measures are necessary.
