Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) expressed condolences to the families of the victims of the massive earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday.
Blanár offered Slovakia’s sympathy, stating, "Our thoughts are with the citizens of Myanmar and Thailand at this difficult time. We stand in solidarity with them and wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
The earthquake, centered near Mandalay, Myanmar, caused widespread destruction, killing at least 1,002 people and injuring 2,376 in Myanmar. Aftershocks, including one measuring 6.4, followed. In Thailand, the quake led to the collapse of a 30-storey building in Bangkok, killing six and injuring 26, with dozens still missing.
