Coalition has enough MPs, opposition will miss Parliamentary Chair vote

Coalition turmoil has been resolved by mutual agreements. The governing coalition has 79 MPs. Richard Raši, MP and deputy chairperson of the coalition Hlas-SD, said this in a Sunday TV debate of public STVR. Branislav Gröhling, chairperson of the opposition party SaS, does not think that the government or the parliamentary majority will be stable.

MPs will meet for the 33rd parliamentary session on Tuesday. The deputies are also expected to elect the Speaker of Parliament. Hlas's nominee for the post, Raši, announced that the election would be one of the first items of the meeting.

The opposition will not take part in the vote, Milan Majerský, chairperson of the opposition KDH party, said in a discussion programme on private TA3 TV channel. According to him, it will be a test whether the coalition will have at least 76 votes. If the coalition fails to elect Raši, Majerský is convinced that early elections will be held this year.

The election of the speaker of parliament is secret.
