President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic Joseph M. Burza urges prompt solution of the problem of an enormous increase in the number of Slovak asylum seekers in Canada.
As he further adds, the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs should seek a systematic solution to this problem and in cooperation with its embassies in Canada and Great Britain and with the Slovak Proxy for Roma Communities. Burza adds that most of these asylum seekers are allegedly of the Roma ethnicity. He also claims that this situation could affect also ordinary citizens traveling to Canada without the intent of seeking asylum there. The Slovak Foreign Ministry claims it is dealing with the situation. The Slovak Republic was fifth on the list of asylum seekers to Canada in the first half of this year and was first in the year on year increase in the number of asylum seekers.
