Investigation launched into alleged illegal monitoring in Leopoldov prison

The Office of the Inspection Service (ÚIS) is conducting a criminal investigation into the monitoring of a room at the Leopoldov prison facilities. The case involves suspicions of abuse of power and unauthorized recording of confidential information.

According to ÚIS spokesperson Andrea Dobiášová, investigators are examining how many cameras were used, by whom, and for what purpose. She stated that no further details could be disclosed at this time.

Lawyer Marek Para, who brought attention to the case, claims that Marian K. and his legal team were unlawfully monitored in 2019 while in custody. He alleges that members of the former National Criminal Agency deliberately placed unofficial cameras in the consultation room to capture handwritten notes from legal meetings.

Para argues that this constitutes a serious violation of defense rights, emphasizing that neither he nor his colleague, Michal Mandzák, were under criminal suspicion. Despite this, authorities allegedly targeted their consultations with Marian Kočner. He further stated that the recorded materials were not destroyed and continue to circulate among law enforcement agencies.
