Prime Minister Fico meets EU ambassadors

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) met with ambassadors from EU countries on Monday, emphasizing Slovakia’s sovereign foreign policy, which he described as oriented toward "all four cardinal points," according to his social media post.

During the meeting, Fico reviewed the recent European Council session, stressing that Europe cannot remain globally competitive without gas transit through Ukraine. He reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment to diplomatic efforts to restore Ukrainian gas transit.

"Slovakia will not participate in any military mission in Ukraine or allocate funds for military aid. However, I support another joint session of the Slovak and Ukrainian governments, focusing on mutually beneficial projects," Fico stated. He also asserted that Slovakia would never back EU sanctions against Hungary for its sovereign positions.

Fico expressed his commitment to maintaining political stability and preventing early elections following the collapse of the Hlas-SD and SNS parliamentary caucuses. He concluded by thanking the ambassadors for an open discussion and for respecting Slovakia’s independent foreign policy.
