Employees of social service facilities protest against low salaries

Employees of social service facilities held a protest in Bratislava on Thursday to express their dissatisfaction with working conditions and salaries, chair of the Slovak Health and Social Services Trade Unions Anton Szalay stated at a press briefing.

The protesting employees are calling for a new collective agreement, which the Slovak Towns and Villages Association and Slovak Self-governing Regions have refused to sign due to a lack of funds.

"We demand dignified salaries for the work we do in social service facilities and a higher-grade collective agreement. In addition, we want the creation of special facilities for aggressive clients, who require a different approach from the one we employ in social service facilities," said Renata Biksadská of the executive commission for social service facilities.

According to the union representatives, about 400 employees took part in the protest, titled 'Our Hands Busy With Work, Our Pockets Empty.'
