It's vital that the Opposition parties join forces and form an alternative to the Government of Prime Minister Robert Fico, head of the SDKU-DS caucus Ľudovít Kaník stated at a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday.
“It's vital that [a platform called] the Democratic Coalition that would offer an alternative to the Cabinet of Prime Minister Robert Fico is formed. It seems that the Opposition achieves success when it manages to join forces”, said Kaník. According to SDKU head Pavol Frešo, the recent municipal elections have shown that the Right can't use the room created in the political arena due to the decreasing influence of several parties. This has been caused by petty fights between centre-right groupings, added Frešo. Expressing disapproval of the mixed coalitions involving Smer-SD and centre-right parties seen in the local elections, the SDKU chairman went on to say that the Right could govern the country together if it managed to remain united and reached out to the public.
