Criminal investigations into COVID-19 management

Slovak parliament health and defence committees may discuss COVID-19 resource management in closed sessions, including the handling of EU funds for vaccine purchases. Deputy Speaker Tibor Gašpar emphasized the need for transparency regarding the effectiveness of these financial decisions. A recent health committee meeting revealed concerns about the mismanagement of public funds during the pandemic, including data deletion from the National Health Information Center. The opposition criticized the lack of specific measures and questioned the current response to pandemic-related issues.

Additionally, three criminal investigations have been initiated concerning the mismanagement of funds during the pandemic, including the establishment of mobile testing stations (MOM) and vaccine purchases. The National Audit Office (NKÚ) recommended improved legislation for emergency situations and central vaccine procurement. However, the health committee meeting lacked a quorum, leading to informal discussions with relevant officials.
