In 2023, 48% of women aged 25 to 34 held higher education degrees, compared to 31% of men. Despite this, their employment and pay remain lower. The employment rate for women in Slovakia increased in 2023, but it’s still 8 percentage points lower than for men. Regional disparities also exist, with only 66% of women employed in eastern Slovakia, compared to 81% in Bratislava. Slovakia has one of the highest gender pay gaps in the EU, with women earning 16% less than men per hour, compared to the EU average of 13%. Labour unions predict that at the current rate, gender pay parity could be achieved by 2050.
