President Pellegrini discussed foreign policy priorities with MP Rudolf Huliak

MP Rudolf Huliak (Independent), nominated by Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) for the post of Tourism and Sport Minister, presented his vision for the ministry to President Peter Pellegrini on Monday. Huliak also assured the President that neither he nor his party would promote any foreign policy priorities that conflict with Slovakia’s national interests in EU and NATO membership, with further steps to be communicated to Prime Minister Robert Fico. Huliak also announced that he would attend coalition council meetings and serve as a nominee of Smer-SD.

Meanwhile, the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party is calling on President Peter Pellegrini not to appoint Independent MP Rudolf Huliak as Tourism and Sport Minister, arguing that it would be an international embarrassment for Slovakia and that Huliak lacks the necessary experience and personal qualifications for the role.
