School Unions consider possible salary increase to be acceptable compromise

The Council of the Education Trade Union considers a proposed increase in base salaries for all education employees an acceptable compromise. However, it criticized the plan for non-tariff remuneration, union chairman Pavel Ondek told TASR after Tuesday's council meeting. Negotiations are set to continue on March 10.

According to Ondek, union representatives will then decide on potential strike action or other measures.

"Union council members particularly criticized the proposal to introduce a new non-tariff remuneration system for teaching and professional staff as of January 1, 2026, arguing that it comes at the expense of a higher increase in base salaries," Ondek stated. He added that the council does not believe the proposed salary increases will significantly enhance the attractiveness of the teaching profession or stabilize other education sector roles.
