Pavol Paška, Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic announced on late Saturday night that he resigns from his position. He did so during a visit paid to the election staff of Richard Raši, re-elected mayor of Košice.
Opposition has called the Saturday’s municipal elections in the city of Košice a referendum about Pavol Paška. “I care about this town, I care about Slovakia and I've had enough. No one will be disrupting my family. Therefore that despite our victory in the referendum, I step down as the speaker of the parliament, I want Slovakia to work as a normal country, where policy is not done by a few anarchists in the streets,” said Paška, commenting also on the Fridays public protests in Bratislava and Košice demanding his resignation.
