EU-Member states need a revision of the rules regarding gas storage obligations, with clear guidelines on which country purchases how much gas and when, as simultaneous purchases would drive gas prices to the maximum, according to Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Hlas-SD).
"When asked about an immediate solution for the required gas for Europe, particularly for Central Europe, the Commission hasn't provided a specific response so far. The Commission doesn't share our view that the restoration of gas transit through Ukraine would resolve the mentioned issues," said the Minister.
Sakova noted that the price of gas increased by 25 percent after the suspension of gas transit through Ukraine, and a further rise was recorded after attacks on Ukrainian drilling fields.
"I firmly believe that the European Commission will manage to introduce a series of measures in the coming weeks that will effectively make energy and gas prices more affordable for industry and households. The afore-mentioned increased gas prices are not the only issue in Europe," said Sakova. She added that negotiations between the Slovak working group and the European Commission will continue in the coming weeks.
