Opposition once again fails to open special session

On Wednesday, Parliament once again failed to open special sessions on no-confidence motions in Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) and Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee). The recall proposals have thus been shifted to the next regular session of parliament, due to start March 25.

The opposition 'Slovakia' party won't support the opening of extraordinary parliamentary sessions called by opposition partners if they don't appropriately communicate and cooperate with them, party leader Igor Matovič stated Tuesday.

"If PS [Progressive Slovakia] is the leader of the opposition, then any extraordinary meeting will also be called with our MPs, and then our MPs will also vote at that extraordinary meeting. If PS continues to break the unity of the opposition here, then our MPs will be present at the meeting, but they won't add their votes to the convening of extraordinary meetings. We're doing this so that PS will wake up [and not think] that suddenly there will be a liberal-progressive majority in Slovakia, with which they will defeat [Premier Robert] Fico," said Matovič.

The party also called on the opposition entities to unite in the political struggle because, in their opinion, the voters demand it.
