On Wednesday a module from the European explorer Rosetta successfully landed on the surface of the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The module that was released by Rosetta has thus become the first ever man-made device to land on a comet.
Slovak scientists from the Institute of Experimental Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Kosice were part of the project, as they prepared the electronic system ESS for the explorer. Slovakia is not yet a member state of the European Space Agency and therefore Slovak companies, universities or research centres cannot fully cooperate on space projects. However, in this case the Kosice based scientists were invited to take part in the project for their experience with the development of space devices. The module has already sent a number of photographs back to the Earth.
