Events of the Velvet revolution of 1989 are now, 25 years later, perceived less positively. 51 percent of the polled Slovaks and 61 percent of the polled Czechs perceive these events as positive.
The survey is a part of a research done by the Slovak Institute for Public Issues and the Czech Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences. Their results also show that 5 years ago Slovaks were more positive, by some 6 percent, about the 1989 events. Overall, in all the aspects the poll questioned, Slovaks seem more critical about the events from 25 years ago than Czechs, who, back then, formed one state with Slovaks.
