A homeless man found injured outside a Bratislava shopping center on January 30 has died, prompting a police investigation. Reports suggest he may have been assaulted by private security guards and police officers after being caught shoplifting. The case is being treated as a homicide, and Slovakia’s police inspection office has taken over the investigation. Authorities are examining possible misconduct by officers, while human rights organizations and Ukraine’s embassy, as the victim was reportedly Ukrainian, have condemned the incident.
