Risk of cyber security attacks increased

The National Cyber Security Center (NCKB) has issued a warning about an increased risk of cyber security attacks, especially on the infrastructure of operators of essential services and elements of critical infrastructure. The National Security Office (NBÚ) reported this on its website.

"Last week, another wave of emails threatening a bomb attack hit schools in Hungary. On Monday (January 27), the same campaign was carried out against 800 schools in Slovenia. Since, based on technical analysis, it is highly likely that this is the same actor who sent the threatening emails to Slovak schools in May of last year, an imminent wave of such emails targeting the Slovak Republic can be expected," the NBU said.

According to the office, operators of essential services and critical infrastructure elements and all educational institutions should prepare for another massive wave of email bomb threats, ransomware attacks, system vulnerability scans and spearphishing attacks based on previous information leaks.

In this regard, the NCKB pointed out that so far none of the bomb threats from this actor have been fulfilled according to publicly available information. At the same time, the National Security and Analysis Center has issued a methodology for assessing the risk of bomb threats, which can also be applied in this case. "However, it is the responsibility of each organization to individually evaluate the impending risk and respond adequately," the NBU noted.
