Slovakia seeks non-Russian gas transit solutions

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár welcomed the European Commission’s support for Slovakia and Hungary in protecting critical energy infrastructure, including pipelines running through Ukraine. Speaking after Monday’s EU Foreign Affairs Council, Blanár praised Ukraine’s willingness to transport non-Russian natural gas to Europe. According to Blanár, negotiations on gas transit through Ukraine involve multiple stakeholders, including Russia, Turkey, and the EU.

Discussions with the EC will continue under Energy Commissioner Dan Jörgensen, with Hungary also involved. Blanár highlighted that Slovakia has long proposed alternatives to Russian gas transit via Ukraine, such as gas from Azerbaijan.
