New dominant of European Capital of Culture under construction

In Trenčín, the reconstruction of the old railway bridge started. It is supposed to be a new landmark of the city, which will become the European Capital of Culture in 2026. It should become a green promenade bridge with cafés, restaurants and sports facilities. The work is expected to cost €10.5 million. "For me it is a kind of Trenčín Eiffel Tower, it will be an exceptional project in the whole of Slovakia attracting also Europeans," said the mayor of Trenčín Richard Rybníček.
 
The bridge will be closed for people during the reconstruction process. They have to use detour routes, especially the old road bridge. The start of the works was delayed by a lengthy public procurement process that lasted 18 months. As one of the landmarks of the European Capital of Culture, the bridge should be open to the public in August 2026.
