Opposition criticizes Prime Minister Fico for fearmongering

Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) faces accusations from opposition parties of fearmongering to divert attention from his government’s failures. Progressive Slovakia (PS) claims Fico is "spreading lies" and misusing intelligence services to silence the opposition, with PS leader Michal Šimečka criticizing him for neglecting pressing issues like healthcare, infrastructure, and economic decline. SaS leader Branislav Gröhling argued that Fico’s rhetoric reflects his fear of citizens’ freely expressed opinions, stating, "Fico is scared of the truth and of people expressing their opinions peacefully, which he tries to paint as chaos."

Meanwhile, KDH called on President Peter Pellegrini to convene a meeting with opposition representatives after Thursday’s Security Council session. Fico has warned of mass protests and potential power grabs, prompting the council to adopt preventive measures. The opposition, however, criticized the government for withholding complete information about the threats and accused Fico of exaggerating the situation to serve his political agenda.
