Student charged in attack at the secondary school sent into custody

The Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok has sent the student, charged in the case of the knife attack at the secondary school in Spisska Stara Ves, into custody, TASR has learnt from the Court spokesperson Katarina Kudjakova. The judge's decision isn't yet final, and the accused has reserved the right to appeal.

The student faces charges of the particularly serious crime of premeditated murder. On Saturday (January 18), the prosecutor from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Presov filed a motion for the accused to be taken into custody.

The victims of Thursday's attack (January 18) at the secondary grammar school in Spisska Stara Ves were two women, aged 18 and 51, a student and the school deputy director. Another 18-year-old woman with moderately severe injuries was taken to hospital. An 18-year-old student who attended the high school, was arrested on suspicion of committing the crime.

In connection with the tragedy, Lubomir Solak is stepping down as the Police Corps President, and the Director of the Spisska Stara Ves District Police Department will also be dismissed with immediate effect, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok stated on Saturday.

The minister justified the dismissal of the Director of the Spisska Stara Ves District Police Department by stating that based on findings from the Inspection Service Office, the department had failed to take sufficient preventive measures, despite being aware of  the problematic student.
