The governmental plenipotentiary for national minorities Laszlo Nagy is quitting the post. He claims he made his decision following a thorough analysis of the situation and from the appeal by the MOST-HID party that nominated him to the post and is now urging him to abdicate. Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar claims that the governing Smer party has been ignoring Nagy's work by rejecting the legislation that aimed to introduce dual-language signs at railway stations in ethnically-mixed areas.
Laszlo Nagy has already given his resignation to Prime Minister Robert Fico who claims they will find a replacement for him adding that his government’s stance towards ethnic minorities is "generous" and "modern", as they have neither approved nor abolished any law relating to minorities and are thus preserving the status quo.
