Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD), accompanied by a delegation of ministers and businessmen, will leave for an official visit to Turkey on Monday, January 20. According to the Government Office, the main goal of the visit is to confirm the quality of bilateral relations between Slovakia and Turkey and to elevate them to the level of a strategic partnership.
Fico is slated to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara. They will discuss an intensification of economic cooperation between the two countries and the current situation in the world. Several bilateral agreements should be signed during the meeting.
Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD), Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Hlas-SD) and Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) will travel to Turkey with the premier.
Fico last visited Turkey in 2015, when he opened a Slovak-Turkish Forum for Science, Innovation and Trade at Bilgi University in Istanbul.
