Parliament officials explain trip to Moscow

During negotiations in Moscow, the Slovak parliamentary delegation sought to initiate discussions on ending the war in Ukraine, stated House Vice-chair Tibor Gašpar (Smer-SD) during a press conference on Thursday. He claimed that Russia justified the conflict by citing perceived threats from NATO expansion. "The arguments seemed logical to me," Gašpar remarked. However, according to Denník N, this narrative is disinformation that Slovak diplomacy has officially dismissed, referencing several international authorities.

Slovak National Party (SNS) leader and MP Andrej Danko announced plans for the delegation to return to Moscow in May for events commemorating the end of World War II. He highlighted that Slovak MPs were the first parliamentary delegation to visit Russia since the conflict in Ukraine began.

Both Gašpar and Danko dismissed concerns over their Moscow trip, rejecting claims that it signaled a shift of Slovakia into Russia's sphere of influence.
