President Pellegrini meets Italian leaders, discusses gas supplies and economic cooperation

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini met with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, on Wednesday during his official visit to Italy. They discussed the situation regarding natural gas supplies to Slovakia after the flow from Ukraine was halted.

The talks also covered the automotive industry and the European Union's actions in this sector, as well as the situation in Ukraine. Both sides agreed on the need for a ceasefire and the end of the military conflict.

Later on Wednesday, President Pellegrini met with Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, where they discussed the role of cities and local governments in caring for their citizens.

Pellegrini also participated in an economic forum in Rome titled "Why Slovakia? Fit for Investing and Trade," where he highlighted Slovakia's potential to play a key role for Italian companies due to its geographic location. He expressed his belief that economic cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow.

The Slovak president also visited the Column of Marcus Aurelius, marking a unique occasion as no foreign head of state had been allowed to visit the top of the column in recent decades. Pellegrini was given the rare opportunity to view the monument from the inside, reflecting the strong ties between Slovakia and Italy.

In the evening, President Pellegrini attended a performance by the Slovak Folk Art Collective at the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
