Opposition criticises PM Fico and Committee on European Affairs session

The opposition strongly criticized Friday's emergency session of the Parliament’s Committee for European Affairs, called to address Prime Minister Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) recent visit to Moscow. They accused Fico of dodging questions and leaving early.

Progressive Slovakia chair Michal Simecka labeled the session a farce, claiming Fico's trips to Moscow and Brussels, along with his rhetoric towards Ukraine and President Zelenskyy, yielded no benefits for Slovakia. He also criticized the lack of transparency around Fico's Moscow visit.

SaS MP Vladimira Marcinkova accused Fico of lying about the nature of his trip, shifting from describing it as private to public. She questioned why Fico avoided discussing significant issues, such as kidnapped Ukrainian children, alleging his disregard for international law.

KDH chair Milan Majersky accused Fico of insulting opposition members and vowed to address concerns through EU negotiations. Similarly, MP Veronika Remisova argued that Fico avoided accountability, resorting to theatrics and empty claims about achievements in energy policy.

The opposition condemned Fico’s handling of the session as evasive and unproductive, emphasizing his failure to deliver concrete results.
