The US Embassy are expected to move from Hviezdoslavo Square in the centre of Bratislava, as the US State Department wants to construct a new building for it and has already launched activities to that effect, Embassy press attaché Janelle Luna told TASR on Thursday.
"The State Department has taken the decision, because the current Embassy building doesn't meet the security requirements set by Congress for US diplomatic missions abroad," said Luna back in May. The Embassy has long been in a dispute with Bratislava city authorities, who dislike the security fence around the building and claim that it spoils the square.
