The President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, stated in his New Year’s speech that in 2025, the Presidential Palace will neither serve as an extension of the government office nor as a political hub of resistance against it. He emphasized that there is no reason for the government not to fully utilize its second year to implement fundamental and long-term measures. He also urged the government to avoid wasting energy on mutual disputes or on topics that might momentarily attract attention and stir emotions but fail to improve the everyday lives of the people in Slovakia. In his New Year’s address, the president also stated that seeking foreign cooperation beyond the fundamental, permanent, and unchanging ties within the EU and NATO is legitimate. He expressed his hope for peace to prevail not only in Slovakia but also in Ukraine, the Gaza Strip, and all other regions afflicted by wars and violent conflicts. According to him, achieving peace in Ukraine would be the most fitting way to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The President also highlighted that Slovaks rightly expect the government to address their concerns and take concrete steps to improve their quality of life.
