Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer-SD) stated on a private TA3 discussion program on Sunday that, based on the reality on the ground, Ukraine will likely need to give up some of its territory. He emphasized that it is in Slovakia's interest for the war to end as soon as possible, with a truce between the warring parties followed by peace talks. According to Kaliňák, what matters more than future borders is the shape of post-war Ukraine.
"It's likely that Ukraine doesn't yet fully grasp that it will never be able to position itself between Germany and Switzerland, but will always share its largest border with the Russian Federation," Kaliňák said. "While there’s no question that Russia is the aggressor—having crossed all lines, broken rules, and violated international law—it's also necessary to pay attention to what’s happening in other parts of the world and apply the same standards to all other disputes.
