Visitor access to upper levels of Devín Castle that features attractive scenic outlook will be restored, with Bratislava acquiring €339,770 from the Norwegian Funds organisation for a reconstruction project, TASR learnt on Tuesday.
The Agreement on Support was signed in Bytča (Žilina region) on the same day, with the upper Castle slated to be reconstructed by the end of April 2016. The upper levels were closed to the public back in 2008 due to the ongoing repairs of castle brickwork above the access staircase. “We wanted to avoid the situation seen with Trenčín Castle, for instance, where a wall collapsed”, said Bratislava City Museum director Peter Hyross. This April, Bratislava filed an application and found itself among 13 successful projects due to receive money from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area. “The capital contributes with the sum over €59,000 to the project”, said Daniela Rodinová of Bratislava City office’s press department.
