MP wants compensation for victims of communist secret police

The opposition party Ordinary People (OLaNO) wants to curb the pensions of  members of the former communist secret police StB and further distribute these resources among people who were their victims, party leader Igor Matovič stated to the TA3 news channel.

"They have been rewarded by the state for 25 years for the fact that they had persecuted and tortured other people, and this wrong-doing hasn't been dealt with yet”, he  said, adding that the proposal in question should involve some 1,200 former StB members and a similar number of their victims. The party plans to submit the proposal for parliamentary debate this month. In order for it to be passed in the House, his party needs support from the ranks of the governing Smer-SD party, which enjoys 83 seats in the 150-seat parliament.
